BRINGING LIGHT AND WARMTH TO BADAKHSHAN

When will all of Badakhshan have access to electricity?

Badakhshon Energy’s (BE) goal is to provide all households with access to clean, reliable and affordable electricity in the first 14 years of the project. Currently, two-thirds of Badakhshan’s capital, Faizabad City has limited connectivity to expensive, diesel-generated power and four nearby districts (Baharak, Jurm, Yaftal-e-Poyun and Shuhada) have limited connectivity to small, hydropower facilities. These locations are in addition to the four northern districts (Ishkashim, Shugnan, Maimai and Nusai) that are provided reliable, uninterrupted and affordable electricity through AKFED’s Tajikistan-based utility, Pamir Energy and represent 52% of all electricity consumed in the Province.

Initially, BE will have to import electricity in order to connect all households but by the end of the project Badakhshan’s electricity supply and generation will be fully self-sufficient and not have to rely on importing energy from other countries and/or provinces
